Onitsuka Tiger is also celebrating their 60th anniversary this year and as you may have seen with a video that we presented to you a couple of weeks ago, their theme for this years collection is the Zodiac year. Each sneaker in the line is in some way inspired by an animal out of the Zodiac calendar - special printing techniques, special finishes and interesting designs can be found on each shoe in the collection.

The Onitsuka Tiger Spring/Summer 2009 Zodiac Collection will be rolled out step by step over the next couple of months. Today we give you a little preview of what there is to come.

A nice new Air Trainer III LE will be released soon from Nike Sportswear. It comes in a nice grey/black colorway with volt accents and a toe box covered on exotic leathers. According to Soleblvd the Air Trainer 3 will be part of a pack that will be released early April at 21 Mercer and Quickstrike accounts around the globe.

The A.R.C. x New Balance M1300 built its color scheme for the collaboration on the classic New Balance M1300 silhouette, originally introduced back in 1985 as a jogging sneaker. The design of the collection takes inspiration from the heritage of the M1300 and features classic core materials, pig suede on the tip, saddle, and foxing plus jacquard knit mesh, which is a staple on many of the domestically made New Balance shoes. All color pantones of teal and grey were chosen by A.R.C. and everything visible on the shoe- suede, labels, laces, thread, inserts, meshes, soling- was a true collaboration of talent between the New Balance designers/developers and A.R.C.

Although Kryptonite aka Nate Robinson proved to be too powerful for Dwight Howard’s endless arsenal of dunks, Superman still brought the heat in an entertaining performance. For the occasion, adidas worked up a handful of special “Superman” make-ups for Howard to showcase during the Dunk contest. One of the sneakers were these TS Bounce Commander’s in a flashy patent leather color-up, which were the ones eventually chosen.

Get ready for Sneaker Con, a new convention for buyers and sellers of sneakers. The event will take place this coming Sunday, March 1st, 2009 at the Times Square Arts Center in Times Square New York. The event will feature 30 vendors exclusive sneaker collectibles and a number of apparel vendors as well. In addition, event participants will be able to see a collection of never before seen and rare Air Jordan, Nike and other sneakers. Mark your calendars and make sure to check it out.

New adidas Consortium releases will be coming out this week. Among the more interesting are the Watermelon Forum Mid and the Pumpkin Forum Lo. The watermelon and the pumpkin are directly translated onto the sneaker, making them both colorful releases for warmer times ahead.

Solebox will be releasing both of them tomorrow (12 February 2009).

The much anticipated 24 Kilates x New Balance 1500 “Miro” will be released soon. Coming with a black suede upper with colorful accents, the sneaker has been heavily influenced by the art of Spanish artist Miro. The sneaker also features a golden 24 Kilates lace lock. Nike introduces the new Air Zoom Toki Lux, their version of a Chukka sneaker. It comes next week in three colorways.

“Retaining distinct characteristics of the Lux series – a basic, wearable color palette built with premium materials – the Zoom Toki Lux was inspired by the Nike Zoom Sabaku and the Nike Blazer. Nike designers chose a supple perforated upper with a tonal Swoosh elegantly and subtly blended in to the layout. The signature features of the Lux series are applied to the Nike Zoom Toki with a vividly accented Sail Blue midsole, the woven “Lux” label on the heel, and a single eyelet stamped with a Lux callout. Subtle sophistication.

The Nike Zoom Toki Lux is offered in two colors – Black and Gum Medium Brown. The third colorway, Blur, will only be available at Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer Street in New York City.”

Wieden+Kennedy 12, in conjunction with Nike and LAIKA Studios, conceptualized this mysterious Dunk to celebrate Coraline, LAIKA’s first feature film, which will be released by Focus Features. True to the films unique, handcrafted anime style, the high-end canvas upper features a turned edge and the black visible seam is hand-sewn, ensuring each pair has a unique bespoke feel. The tonal contrast in materials and subtle, hidden details reflect the film’s sense of curiosity, not to mention the glow in the dark sole – spooky! The final product was created by artist Gian Galang and Rob Heppler.

A run of 1,000 is available for those lucky people who uncover codes on the Coraline website. A limited edition artist pack has also been released. These feature additional props from the film and a special box.

Puma Blaze of Glory Sneaker Freaker Colab.

Following on from the initial ‘Great White’ colorway released in April 2008, we can now reveal the stunning second version of the Sneaker Freaker X PUMA ‘Jirozame’ project. This new colorway of the PUMA Blaze of Glory flips the shoe to inky black, with a slash of vivid color that sets it off in all the right places. Highlights include sensual nubuck with turqoise sateen, silky laces, red chunks and poppin’ pink bits, all hooked up with the legendary smoke-tinted Trinomic cell unit in the sole of the shoe. There’s also a choice of several beautifully designed insoles and multiple laces to complement the highly distinctive sneaker. “This thing looks evil!” says the editor and founder of Sneaker Freaker, Simon “Woody” Wood. “ And I love evil! It’s seriously the most comfortable shoe PUMA has ever made. Once you put this thing on you’ll never want to take it off. The Trinomic system was so far ahead of its time, you won’t believe your feet!” Be wary of its apparently docile nature, this one is lethal. And very, very black.

Vans have teamed up with street artist, Dave the Chimp and have created a new line completely inspired by his works:

Every year, the European Marketing Managers at Vans have a meeting where they put forward ideas for collaborations. Usually it’s with brands like Carhartt. The UK MM knew my work, and suggested me as a possible collaborator. So I had to then pitch against two other UK brands (famous brands I won’t mention) so I knew I had to come correct. I studied graphic design and worked in advertising as well as being an artist, so I know how to put together a good presentation. I hand painted pictures of the shoes so the colours would be correct, had a concept behind the designs, and also showed ideas for additional stuff like box design and t-shirts. I did all this because I know most collaborations don’t go much further than the brand saying ‘we want this model shoe, in blue, and put our logo here’. I presented two ideas, one I thought too crazy for them to go with, using a shoe model that isn’t popular, and one ‘safe’ design. Somehow I won the commission, and at first they decided to make both designs, but ended up only making the ‘crazy’ shoe. I’m the first UK artist to have a Vans shoe. And I even got paid!!
